Tool for Managing Spread Betting, CFD and Forex Trading Account

About the Client

The client is one of the leading providers of contracts for difference, forex, and spread betting services. The company supports individual traders in more than 50 countries and processes around 2 million trades per month.

In a highly regulated and performance-sensitive trading market, the client needed reliable mobile engineering capacity to continue developing a native iOS application for managing spread betting, CFD, and forex trading accounts.

Objective

To assist the client's distributed team in scaling up and further development of a spread betting and CFD trading application. The challenge was to take up a scheme of the future application and follow the development plan providing quality services.

Solution

The solution was to meet the industry requirements of speedy data processing and performance as well as strict standards ensuring security of trading deals and transactions. Originaly the application was built with native iOS technologies, while later the decision was made to build an app with Xamarin native technologies to align the development of an application both on iOS and Android platforms.

Altabel development team has been developing, enhancing and supporting the following functionality in the application:

• Instant checking of the latest prices and market movements;
• Opening and closing positions;
• Comprehensive live streaming charting package allowing to analyse historical data and identify price patterns and trends, with historical and live streaming prices;
• Publishing of the latest global investment news from Reuters News;
• Setting of stop and limit orders including if done and OCO (one cancels other);
• Creation of new or amending of existing orders;
• Viewing of pending, completed and cancelled orders;
• Monitoring of positions using a unique positions chart;
• Receiving push notifications on price changes for specific markets;
• Viewing and amending of multiple Watch Lists;
• Reviewing of trade and order history;
• Signing in via Touch ID;
• Trying out the application without signing up;
• Managing a trading account.

Security was one of the most critical requirements, as the application handled CFD trading account data and transaction-related functionality.

In the later stage of cooperation, the client decided to establish its own mobile development center and continue development using Xamarin Native. One Xamarin developer joined the client’s team to support the transition, while another developer continued supporting the native iOS application.

The overall team was geographically distributed across the UK, the US, and Eastern Europe. The Scrum Master was on the client’s side and communicated directly with team members. Project progress, requirements, activities, bugs, and change requests were managed through the client’s internal custom system.

Result

The dedicated team of iOS developers and QA specialists successfully integrated with the client’s international delivery team and supported the evolution of a secure, high-performance mobile trading application.

The cooperation helped the client expand and maintain the product across markets, strengthen mobile trading capabilities, and keep the application competitive in a demanding fintech environment.
