Scalable SaaS Platform for BESS Modeling and Financial Analysis

About the Client

The client is a renewable-energy technology company from Spain developing a SaaS platform for long-term techno-economic assessment of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid energy configurations combining storage with renewable generation.

Objective

The client’s goal was to turn its existing energy modeling capabilities into a structured SaaS product that could support the full analysis workflow within a single web platform.

Solution

The client’s proprietary modeling service already handled BESS and hybrid energy simulations through an API. Altabel built the product layer around it, covering user and project management, scenario setup, simulation workflows, results, reporting, and later financial analysis.

SaaS foundation and user workflows

Altabel implemented authentication, user access, a multi-user tenant model with admin roles, and the core workflows across projects, simulations, results, and reports.

Energy simulation workflows

The team built scenario configuration, input validation, API-based simulation execution, and backend logic for preparing and exchanging data with the client’s modeling service.

Results and reporting

Altabel created structured result views and downloadable reports for internal analysis and stakeholder review.

Financial Analysis module

A dedicated in-product financial workflow was added with guided inputs, validation, and support for iterative analysis.

Excel-to-Python financial model

Two Python engineers converted the client’s Excel-based financial model into a maintainable Python module with JSON-based API communication, preserving key debt and cash-flow calculations.

Result

Altabel delivered an MVP SaaS platform for BESS and hybrid energy modeling, enabling users to create projects, run simulations through the client’s proprietary modeling services, review results and generate reports.

In the next phase, Altabel added a Financial Analysis module by converting the client’s Excel-based financial model into a Python module with API-driven JSON inputs and outputs, moving financial evaluation into a scalable in-product workflow.
