Medical Report Management Solution for DXA Bone Densitometry Exams

About the Client

Leading medical imaging company specializing in micro-texture analysis of X-ray based technology, i.e. DXA, conventional X-ray and CT images. The software is being developed for bone and tissue microarchitecture analysis for osteoporosis, orthopedics, dental and foreseen potentials in mammography and equine.

Objective

To build a software supporting the workflow of generating medical reports for DXA bone densitometry exams. The software allows clinicians quickly estimate bone microarchitecture from a spine DXA image to improve osteoporosis management in conjunction with bone density and clinical risk factors.

Solution

The solution is a responsive web application built with ASP.Net / SQL Server that implements a business process generating medical reports. The reports are populated with data from various data sources: while the Customer provides components written in C# that connect to these data sources, Altabel Group's dev team implements front-end and some modules and functionalities like:

• User/rights/roles management;
• User authentication;
• User interface: responsive web design to render as good as possible on different devices (PC, tablet, mobile), etc.
• Report engine generating 2 types of documents, each with one medical report and one billing report in the form of editable Microsoft Office Open XML Word documents. The medical report is the main output of the software. The report is generated from data gathered on external data sources (on DXA PCs (images and data)) and from data gathered during the workflow and stored in the database.

Result

Initially created in a Swiss hospital during the time of our collaboration, the product is now commercially present in over 60 countries and has facilitated more than 3 million procedures worldwide. It is recommended in over 30 clinical guidelines, highlighting its importance in fracture risk prediction and treatment monitoring. The software developed in cooperation with Altabel continues to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of bone densitometry practices by assisting physicians in interpreting bone density scans and creating BMD reports that comply with ISCD and NOF standards.
