Smart city and sustainable community spirit was really in the air at the venue of Nordic Edge Expo 2019 – this fifth year during September 24-26 5,000 attendees from 50 countries visited Stavanger for the event, and more than 150 speakers from more than one hundred organizations shared their knowledge and expertise on all things related to smart and sustainable cities.
Nordic Edge aims to be among Europe’s most important arenas for knowledge exchange and inspiration to creators of smarter businesses, cities and societies, and it is definitely by far the largest Smart City event in Northern Europe.
Nordic Edge joins forces of public and private sectors, and the synergy of this Nordic model is naturally derived from democracy and high citizen involvement. Nordic Edge itself as a non-profit corporation is owned by private companies working in close cooperation with municipalities and city administrations to promote solutions for smarter cities and communities, and they aim to be the Smart City accelerator that puts the Nordics on the global map as a vibrant and vital region where innovative solutions for a smarter, safer, greener and better world are fostered.
Life Actually is the theme for Nordic Edge Expo 2019, and the ambition for this common arena is to delve deeper into these topics through interviews, panel discussions, lectures, partner exchanges and interactive sessions.
Co-organizers from the Nordic and beyond covered on current Smart City topics including:
It was also interesting to hear about some promising initiatives in Norway.
Nordic Edge has joined forces with Microsoft, Smedvig, Stavanger Municipality, Sparebank1 SR-Bank, Lyse and Tieto to boost Smart City solutions into the international market by establishing the Nordic Edge Innovation Lab, which is among Europe’s largest innovation networks for smarter cities and communities, and consists of flexible offices, prototyping labs and a dedicated event area. The lab will bring together a wide range of initiatives, actors and programs as well as new services, solutions and technologies to accelerate the creation of smarter and more sustainable societies and manageable, safe, efficient, open cities inclusive for everyone living there.
One more driving force behind smart city development initiated by Nordic Edge has been Nordic Edge Smart City Innovation Cluster, which is the official Norwegian innovation cluster on smarter cities and communities.
The exhibition has clearly showed and proved the Nordic smart city initiative progress. On the expo floor you could talk to innovative start-ups, developing IoT, smart city, smart building, smart mobility and smart healthcare solutions, as well as to larger organizations like innovation parks, accelerators, VCs and municipality representatives.
