Ecommerce + Shop Tech 2018

Ecommerce + Shop Tech is Finland's largest trade fair

Our Business Development Managers Marina Karabanova and Yuliya Poshva have recently returned from the top retail show in Finland, Helsinki held on 14-15 March 2018.

Today ecommerce is one of the most fast-growing and profitable economic sectors because it includes all financial and trade transactions carried out through internet. Naturally, ecommerce is largely used by businesses of all sizes in all industries. The event takes place at least once a year and is held not only in Finland. It is considered to be an important meeting place for suppliers in the industry. This year the event gathered more than 100 participants represented mainly by local companies.

The conference lasted for 2 days. Messukeskus Expo and Convention Centre where the conference took place is located close to the city centre and is the biggest convention centre in Finland. Apart from eCommerce there were 2 more conferences going at the same time.

The convention hall opened around 10 a.m and closed after 3 p.m. Mostly we were interested in the exhibition part which was co-located with the educational one in the same hall. The range of exhibitors and stands impressed with its variety. Seems that everyone in Finland use e-commerce solutions from Fintech startups to PostNord. Many exhibitors approached the issue in a very creative manner. For example, Mastercard representatives were giving out traditional Russian sweets and one Finnish company was making candy floss for the visitors.

Taking into account the scale of the event, which was modest from global perspective, there were no problems with either finding accommodation or buying tickets to Finland. The entrance tickets to the conference were free, the visitors just had to register at the website beforehand. In general it is worth noting that Helsinki has excellent transport connections so there wouldn’t be any problems with travelling around the city. One more thing to remember - don’t underestimate Finnish climate and make sure to wrap up warmly!

Apart from learning about newest innovations in the industry, It was a great opportunity to meet decision makers, top suppliers and niche exhibitors under one roof and discuss prospects for collaboration. These 2 productive days filled us with inspiration, helped to boost a network of new contacts and equipped with new and immediately useful knowledge in the retail sector.
